Things I do to DPS

This isn't a full blown, all encompassing post about how to play a shadow priest. It is just a post on the things I have found to increase my dps.


Rotation: The shadow priest class really doesn't have a "rotation." we follow a priority system much like everyone other class in the game.

Your opener is very important. The opener I use is VT - DP - MB - MF (2 ticks) - SWP. Your goal is to get 5 stacks of shadow weaving to benefit your SWP.

The priority system is (from most important to least important):

VT/SWP/DP: Your dots should be kept up at all times
MB: This should be used whenever off cooldown
MF: Use this when your dots are up and mindblast is on cooldown.

Clipping mindflay: There is good clipping and bad clipping. Good clipping is where you interrupt your mindflay right after a tick of damage to cast a dot that is about to fall. Bad clipping is when you stop your mindflay before a tick of damage to cast a dot that is about to fall. Most of the time you will find yourself stopping to cast a dot after the second tick of your mindflay.

Shadow word Pain: Shadow word pain obviously refreshes constantly from mindflay. This causes it to have an interesting mechanic. Whatever crit % you are at when you cast SWP, it will be refreshed with that crit throughout the fight.

One of the biggest things to increase dps is knowing the ins and outs of your class. Shadowpriest.com is a vital read for any shadow priest. Read every topic. Anything you want to know can be found here. I read new topics everyday, and always find something new.

Farmer, you are my hero. I couldn't figure out what the hell was going on . . . I had read that you want the full duration of your mindflay and that's not the case . . . and that mfclip addon is awesome I just went up 200dps.
